The Tottenham Hotspur full-back was quality against the German side this week.

In his early appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, summer signing Serge Aurier looked a quality player with an edge, the prospect of a rash foul or a needless booking just around the corner.
As a consequence, some Spurs fans quickly labeled him a liability, with the more reliable Kieran Trippier seen as the sensible alternative.

However Aurier’s performance against Borussia Dortmund this week suggested he had turned a corner in his fledgling Spurs career, putting in an outstanding performance and suggesting he can be a star turn on the right side of Tottenham’s increasingly impressive back-line.
It is worth noting that Aurier is still only 24 and he is arguably a few years away from his peak. If anyone can coach the rashness out of his game and ensure it is all about the positives, it is Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The competition for a starting spot between Trippier and Aurier should see both men raise their game in the months ahead. Yet on Tuesday’s evidence it is the latter who has laid down an early marker that he deserves to be featuring more often than not.
It will have hurt Aurier to sit out the recent victory against Real Madrid and his showing in Germany proved he has everything in his locker to be every bit as effective as the best right-backs in the game.
