Lucas Moura completed a deadline-day move to Tottenham.
Serge Aurier has told Tottenham Hotspur’s website that he urged Lucas Moura to join the north London giants ahead of his deadline-day move from Paris Saint-Germain.
Right-back Aurier, 25, joined Spurs in the summer from French giants PSG, and has impressed on the right side of defence as he continues to contest with Kieran Trippier for the first-choice at right-back.
The Ivory Coast international played with Brazil international Lucas Moura under manager Unai Emery and together the newly-reunited Tottenham stars won the 2014-15 and 2015-16 Ligue 1 titles.
Now, Aurier has claimed he told Moura to move to London and join Spurs, before delivering his verdict on the Brazilian and how he would fit in to Spurs’ team alongside the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min.
“I told him to come here because, for me, coming to England, to London, to Tottenham is good for your progression. You come here, play good football and see the city, which he also likes,” Aurier said.
“I told him that here in England it’s not the same because the people love football and it’s a crazy moment when you score, when you tackle, when you push, you run because people give you their maximum support.
“He’s a quick player, good at dribbling with good energy. He’s a new option for the team because we have players that are fast – Sonny, Dele, Harry – and Lucas is similar. He’s very quick and he scores good goals.”
Moura, also 25, joined Spurs after becoming surplus to requirements at PSG where he managed just six league and cup appearances this season – clocking up just 79 minutes of first-team action.
However, the addition of Moura is expected to be a positive one as he looks to impress enough to gain a place in Brazil’s squad at the World Cup this summer. He will have plenty of opportunities with Spurs challenging on three fronts.
