Serge Aurier joined Tottenham Hotspur for £23 million this past summer.
Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur’s matchday program and quoted by Football London, Serge Aurier has revealed that team-mate Moussa Sissoko purposely doesn’t always translate the right message that manager Mauricio Pochettino conveys to him.
Aurier joined Tottenham for £23 million in the summer and has since posted a number of encouraging displays in the Champions League, though right-back Kieran Trippier has kept him out of many Premier League encounters so far.
The Cameroon international, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain, is not fluent in English and he reveals that he often calls on the help of Frenchmen Sissoko and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to translate what the manager’s instructions to him are.
However, the former Toulouse man, who played with Sissoko at the French club, says that the £30 million signing often jokes around and does not always accurately translate what Pochettino is saying.
“When I don’t understand something, for example, they come and tell me what the coach wants from me if I haven’t completely understood,” he told Spurs’ Matchday program, via Football London.
“With Hugo it’s perhaps a bit more about the serious instructions, whereas Moussa tends to joke a lot more and sometimes I get the impression that he’s not telling me the exact truth, but I’m still very thankful to him!”
Aurier has only started four Premier League games for Tottenham, and none in three weeks, but tonight’s trip to Leicester might see him recalled after Trippier struggled in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Brom.
And hopefully Sissoko knows where the line in regards to joking is and tells him exactly what Pochettino is looking for from him.
