Tanguy Ndombele made his first start for Lyon during his second spell at the club on Saturday, after rejoining Lyon on loan from Tottenham. Serge Aurier responded, heaping praise on Ndombele on his Instagram post.

Ndombele, 25, was one of four attacking midfielders to leave Tottenham towards the end of the January window. Dele Alli joined Everton permanently, while Gio Lo Celso and Bryan Gil have also left on loan.

The France international made his first start since returning – having made a substitute appearance against Monaco the weekend beforehand. He lasted the entire 90 minutes – as Lyon beat Nice 2-0 at the Groupama Stadium.

Ndombele posted on Instagram after a superb display in the middle of the park, which saw him play as part of a two-man pivot in a 4-2-3-1 system for Peter Bosz’s side. He laid on an assist for Karl-Toko Ekambi’s effort.

“Good collective victory yesterday at home, and thank you to supporters for the atmosphere,” Ndombele said, on Instagram.

Aurier on Ndombele: Tottenham star shows fans what he can do

Two things will come as a surprise to Tottenham fans, and perhaps, even Antonio Conte. Ndombele played as part of a two-man midfield for Lyon, in front of the defence – and impressed. He also lasted the entire match.

It either says Tottenham did not give him the chance to do that on a more-regular basis – or that he simply did not put the same amount of effort in at Spurs. Many Spurs fans will argue it was the latter.

Aurier, meanwhile, heaped praise on Ndombele – after his eye-catching efforts on Saturday afternoon. He said: “The man of the moment. Thank you for the sauce yesterday.”
