Every team should enter the season confident of success, and in Tottenham’s case they are aiming high.

Despite a lack of additions in the transfer market, Spurs have the core of a strong squad, as their World Cup stars proved.

Serge Aurier was one of the players to miss the tournament and he is hoping to make an impression in pre-season.

Speaking to The Mail, Aurier says he believes Tottenham have the capability to win the league and will go into the campaign aiming to do exactly that.

Aurier said: “The players are good, the mentality is good. I want to win the league.

“Why not? Every day work, work, work. And afterwards we’ll see.'”

This is a sensible answer to a difficult question posed to the right-back.

It would be defeatist and negative to write off his team’s chances so early, while he also manages to avoid being over confident or arrogant.
