Tottenham Hotspur fans have barely seen Serge Aurier in 2019.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier has told Canal Football Club, as quoted by Get French Football News, that he has no desire to leave this summer.
Spurs sold star right back Kyle Walker to Manchester City in 2017, and after linked to a host of replacements, they settled on Aurier.
Tottenham paid £23million (Sky Sports) to sign Aurier, luring him from Paris Saint-Germain, where he had fallen out of favour under Unai Emery.
The Ivorian has failed to step up as a clear replacement for Walker, making just 25 appearances in the Premier League and 41 in all competitions, with Kieran Trippier remaining as Tottenham’s first choice.
Aurier hasn’t even been seen in a Spurs shirt since the 1-0 defeat of Borussia Dortmund in March, leaving some to wonder just where on earth he has been.
Boss Mauricio Pochettino told Football.London earlier this month that Aurier was fit to travel to Ajax, but simply wasn’t selected to make the trip, leaving him behind in London for such a huge game.
That may have appeared telling, but Aurier has now admitted that he has no desire to leave Spurs, as he’s very happy at the club and puts his struggles down to injury, believing he can still get back into the plans at Spurs off the back of a strong Africa Cup of Nations.
“In football things can happen very quickly,” said Aurier. “For the moment I do not desire to leave Tottenham. For the moment, I am very happy. This season I have been interrupted by injury more than anything else, but life is like that. I will have to see what will happen (on if he can make it into the starting XI).”
“We have done a good season and we are in the Champions’ League final, we are going to enjoy that, see how it goes and next year, my season is not finished, I still have an Africa Cup of Nations too,” he added.
