Ian Wright has said that he messaged Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford recently to suggest that he was still in the hunt for the Premier League golden boot, on the Wrighty’s House Podcast.
Bamford is currently on 14 goals for the season at Leeds, which leaves him five behind Harry Kane who leads the charts.
For the Leeds front man to catch up with Tottenham’s leading marksman looks difficult now, with games running out.
But Wright has suggested that Bamford still should be eyeing up the award, and he wants him to be slightly more ruthless in attack.
“I sent him a message the other day, saying you don’t need to win the league to win the golden boot bro,” he said.
“I don’t know if he grasped it. He didn’t grasp it like I was saying it.
“Because what I was trying to say was ‘your team is fine, go and start to take those chances’. Accumulate!”
Bamford was rather unfortunate that he wasn’t given much of a chance to add to his tally at the weekend.

The Leeds front-man was withdrawn after Liam Cooper was sent off for the Whites, in their most recent game against Manchester City.
While the decision was definitely the correct one, Bamford’s own chances of catching up in the golden boot race was certainly harmed as a result.
Leeds are next in action against Liverpool on Monday evening, when Bamford will surely start.
