Glen Johnson has backed Arsenal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo on a ‘short-term’ deal following Gabriel Jesus’ injury.

The former England defender thinks Ronaldo, who is a free agent after leaving Manchester United last month, would be a ‘sensible option’ for Mikel Arteta.

The 37-year-old left Manchester United under a dark cloud, after a falling out with manager Erik ten Hag, including a tell-all interview with Piers Morgan.

That controversial interview meant only one thing. The end of his career at Old Trafford, but he did also share that he would be ‘happy’ if Arsenal were crowned champions of England and how he likes the manager, as posted by ESPN.

Well, he could make that a reality himself if he joins in January, as Glen Johnson, for now until the end of the season, backed that idea, as he told GGrecon.

“In terms of a short-term solution, then yes, definitely,” said Johnson about signing Ronaldo.

“Jesus is class, and if Arsenal is going to win the league, and if Jesus is going to be out for three months, then you don’t have three months to wait if you’re trying to win a Premier League title.

“To sign Ronaldo on a short-term deal would represent a sensible option.”

BETTER OPTIONS THAN RONALDO

As crazy as it sounds, Arsenal can go down a better road than handing the keys to Ronaldo, especially given how he left Manchester United.

From Arsenal’s perspective, there could be that lure to bring him in because of who he is and how they could secure title glory.

But, the long-term factor needs to be looked at, plus what Ronaldo provides, in comparison to Jesus.

The Portugal international just wouldn’t fill Jesus’ void without the ball and outside of the penalty area when Arsenal are on the ball, therefore, they have to look at someone who will, rather than pushing for that marquee name.
