Rangers recorded a massive win over Celtic this afternoon.

Steven Gerrard’s side beat the Hoops 1-0 at Ibrox to move 19 points clear of the reigning champions at the halfway point.

Celtic do boast three games in hand but, with their erratic form this season, you’d rather have the points and it’s clear that Rangers have taken an enormous step toward ending their Old Firm rivals’ bid for 10 Premiership titles in a row.

An own goal from Callum McGregor on 70 minutes, shortly after Nir Bitton’s straight red card for hauling down Alfredo Morelos, was the difference between both sides.

But during the first half, the difference was Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Celtic bossed the first 45 minutes and forced the veteran keeper into a number of brilliant saves – including a one finger-tip effort to deflect Leigh Griffiths’s curling effort against the post.

And here’s what Gers legend Derek Ferguson said about him

He told BBC Sport Scotland: “Celtic have got after them. Allan McGregor has been sensational, but for a game of this magnitude Rangers have not shown up. The one worry for Neil Lennon is that Celtic haven’t scored – they should be two or three up.”

Even though Celtic haven’t been at their best this season, Rangers have been phenomenal and even those on the green half of the Old Firm divide would struggle to disagree.

The light Blues have dropped only four points from 22 league games this season, winning 62 points from a possible 66.

It’s a stunning run they’re on and if they’re even half as solid during the second half of the campaign, Celtic won’t be winning 10 in a row.
