West Ham United fans have reacted to the rumours that they want to sign Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Following the long-term injury to Angelo Ogbonna, it has forced West Ham’s hand to dip into the winter market to try and bring in some depth in the centre-back area.
Mavropanos is on Arsenal’s books, but he is currently producing the goods out on loan for German outfit Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
The 24-year-old contract is due to expire at the Emirates next summer, but it seems he could make a permanent switch before then.
German publication Bild have claimed that West Ham are one of several Premier League clubs keen to add him to their ranks next month.
There is also the option for Stuttgart to sign Mavropanos at the end of the season, but of course, that will depend on what also happens in January.
Signed in 2018 under the stewardship of the club’s legendary figure, Arsene Wenger, the Greek international found game time tough in north London.
As a result, he only put on their colours on eight occasions, but given interest from teams like West Ham, it probably shows that they made a mistake by not using him more.
David Moyes has proven to have an eagle-eye in the transfer market by signing some top-quality players and a number of those unknown or under the radar figures.
Tomas Soucek and Vladamir Coufal are two prime examples, as well someone like Jarrod Bowen who joined from Championship side Hull City.
Either way, if the loaned out Arsenal defender were to move to the London Stadium, then he will be thrust straight into the life of playing in the Europa League.
Not only that, with the Gunners moving above West Ham in the table as well, there is also the chance he could have his say on who finishes in the Champions League places.
