Leeds United will face Newcastle United in the Championship on Sunday.
Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has told the club’s official website the importance of winning against Newcastle United this weekend.
The West Yorkshire outfit will take on Newcastle at Elland Road in the Championship on Sunday afternoon.
Phillips, who is 20 years of age, has underlined the importance of picking up all three points against the Magpies.
The young midfielder believes that winning against Rafael Benitez’s side will send out a message to the rest of the league.
“I’m excited for the Newcastle game with it being a sell out, it is going to be a good game and they are a good side,” Phillips told Leeds’s official website.
“If we can beat Newcastle it will send out a message to the whole league and that is what we have been trying to do week in, week out, even against Norwich, we wanted to beat them to send a message out to Newcastle.
“I know the Leeds fans will be behind us all, no matter what happens, we just want to make them proud of us.”
Newcastle have the strongest team in the Championship and are firm favourites to win the division.
The Magpies, who got relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, are currently at the top of the league table.
Winning against Rafael Benitez’s side will be massive for Leeds, but a draw will not be a bad result.
The West Yorkshire are genuine playoff contenders this season and will head into the match against Newcastle high on confidence.
Winning against the Magpies will be hard, but Leeds are certainly capable of earning a point from the encounter at Elland Road on Sunday.
