Leeds United fans have called for Patrick Bamford to be called up to the England squad, after injuries to both Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka.
Sky Sports have reported that the Manchester United and Arsenal duo won’t play for England on Thursday evening against San Marino, as both are nursing injuries.
With England’s attacking options now looking more limited than before, Leeds fans are questioning why Bamford isn’t being called up to the team.
And they are suggesting that Southgate should simply allow his injured players to rest at home, while picking their chief goalscorer.
Whether Gareth Southgate will look towards Bamford now his injury problems are becoming clear remains to be seen.
It is understood that the Leeds forward was very close to making the squad, but ultimately he was left out in favour of Ollie Watkins.
That decision has frustrated Leeds supporters, who feel that Bamford has shown better form than Watkins this term.
The Leeds front-man has 14 goals to his name, and if Southgate does need to call another player into his squad, he will surely be first choice to make the step up.
