Everton have been linked with a move for the West Ham United ace.
According to a report from the Sun, West Ham star Marko Arnautovic is being targeted by Everton this summer, with a potential £50 million switch from east London to Merseryside being mooted for the Austrian.
The Sun claim that the Hammers slapped a £50 million price-tag on the 29-year-old’s head in a bid to ward off potential suitors.
The Toffees are not fazed by that asking price, however, according to the British tabloid, and that could spell real trouble for West Ham.
Arnautovic was the Hammers’ talisman last season, and without him, they very well could be plying their trade in the Championship next term.
The Austria international notched up 11 goals and six assists in 31 Premier League outings for West Ham, after making a slow start to his career at the London Stadium, and he will be vital to their immediate future.
The East London outfit must do everything within their power to keep hold of the forward this summer, if they truly want to make progression next season.
Selling him for £50 million might seem like good business on the face of it, but in the long-term it could turn out to be a costly move, with inflated transfer prices making it so hard to sign an able bodied replacement.
With Manuel Pellegrini now in charge at West Ham, things are finally starting to look up for the Hammers, but selling Arnautovic would be a massive backwards step, in spite of the potentially lucrative transfer fee that they would receive for his services.
