West Ham United are set to sell Jose Fonte to China for a sizeable fee.

Fonte appears to have no future at West Ham, but Chinese club Dalian Yifang have been prepared to pay a sizeable amount for the centre-back.

Considering Fonte is now 34, and has had injury problems this season, to get almost £5 million for him is an impressive piece of negotiating skill.
Of course, £4.9 million is not mega-money in this market, but it is still a sizeable fee to receive for a player who is past his peak.

West Ham can now look to re-invest the funds raised from Fonte’s impending sale in the summer, when they look to bring more quality in.
The Hammers’ board have come under a great deal of stick recently for the transfer business they have completed, but even their harshest critics would surely have to praise this deal, if it does go through as expected.
