When David Moyes became manager of West Ham United, some observers were quick to point out how barely he used Javier Hernandez during his time at Manchester United.

Now working with the Mexican for a second time, Moyes cannot afford to overlook the sharp-shooter and far less part company with him all together.

Unfortunately for West Ham the 29-year-old is side-lined for the first few matches of Moyes’ tenure and it will be up to those who are available to pick up the slack. That said, in time Hernandez could become a vital player in the Hammers’ hopeful surge up the table.

While West Ham have a few forwards to call on, including exciting youngster Toni Martinez, Hernandez is the best option in terms of Premier League ability, having impressed at Old Trafford despite playing a relative bit-part role for a striker of his quality.

There may be talk of a change of personnel in January but Moyes should be utilising what he has and signing additions who can get the best out of his star names.

Hernandez has the ability to score a hat-full for West Ham. He just needs the right supply and it is up to his manager to ensure players behind him do just that in the months ahead.
