Leeds United reportedly spent £500,000 on Caleb Ekuban in the summer of 2017.
It looks like Leeds United might be offloading Caleb Ekuban soon.
According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Trabzonspor will sign the Leeds-owned striker on a permanent basis before the season is over.
The report adds that they will spend around £878,000 on a transfer fee – and that would represent great business by Whites’ Director of Football Victor Orta.
Make no mistake: Ekuban, who scored twice for United across 21 games last season, is a flop.
Leeds spent £500,000 [Yorkshire Evening Post] on signing the Italian striker but, bizarrely, it looks like they might actually end up making a profit on him, despite his failure to adapt to life in West Yorkshire.
If the figures are correct, the Elland Road club could make a profit of around £378,000 on the 24-year-old.
It isn’t huge money by any means, but it does illustrate that Ekuban, as an investment, is nowhere near as poor as he looks.
Few could consider him a successful signing, even if Leeds were to make millions on him, but Orta received a lot of stick for signing quite a few duds during the summer of 2017 and if he can wind up turning even a small profit with most of them then maybe, just maybe, they weren’t dreadful signings after all.
