It is not very often an elite striker becomes available, but this summer one of the most coveted in Europe may be on the market.

Prolific Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette admitted this weekend in an interview broadcast by Canal+ and Eurosport that he is planning to leave the club this summer for a ‘progressive’ new challenge.

Lacazette has scored 18 goals in 18 Ligue 1 games this season, continuing his outstanding form of the past 4-5 season at the club.

He is just the striker Liverpool need to be looking at this summer if they are going to kick on, especially with question marks over Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, who have had poor seasons.

Sturridge in particular has been out of favour and out of form, and Liverpool at this point may be open to cashing in, with the England international’s reputation still high.

Lacazette would be an ideal replacement, with no such troubled injury history, and would be motivated to be a big success.

With Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana pulling the strings, the Frenchman could flourish at Anfield.

He would be expensive though, with Lyon notorious for demanding big sums of money, and are likely to want more than £40 million.

With money required to spend on the club’s leaky defence, this could leave Liverpool in need of securing Champions League qualification to pull off a deal, unless a big fee is acquired from selling Sturridge.
