Some Liverpool fans on Twitter want to see Gini Wijnaldum sold this summer.
The Netherlands international has been linked with a move to Barcelona over the past week and only has one year left on his contract at Anfield.
And according to The Telegraph, Liverpool are unlikely to offer him a new deal at this stage.
The former Newcastle United midfielder, who turns 30 in November, is a star player of Jurgen Klopp’s first XI and started 35 of the Reds’ 38 Premier League games en route to the title last term.
Losing him could be considered a big, big blow, but selling up now makes sense if the alternative means him leaving for absolutely free in a year.
And that’s certainly the stance that some Liverpool fans on Twitter are taking:
The good news about Wijnaldum possibly leaving is that it’d open up room for Thiago Alcantara.
The Spaniard is heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, but Wijnaldum’s presence makes it difficult for the English champions to justify a £27 million investment.
If the Dutchman was leaving, however, it might make it a lot easier for Klopp and Director of Football Michael Edwards to pull the trigger.
