Aston Villa fans on Twitter saw the funny side after Liverpool forward Sadio Mane stated that he wants them to ‘stay up’ so he can score ‘more goals’ against them, as he told Sky Sports.

Both for Southampton and now Liverpool, Mane has a pretty strong record against Villa – netting six times in as many games, including during his side’s 2-0 win at Anfield yesterday.

Every forward out there has a team they cannot stop scoring against and it seems Mane has found his perfect match.

During the reverse fixture at Villa Park, he netted a last-gasp winner as the Merseyside club, at the time, maintained their 100% start to the season.

Whilst Villa fans won’t have fond memories of the damage Mane has caused them, including scoring the quickest hat-trick in Premier League history during his days at St Mary’s, they made it clear that they would more than happily allow him to continue his run against them if it means Dean Smith’s side avoid relegation.

Villa are still sitting in the bottom three and a home clash against high-flyers Manchester United awaits. Three points could see them move into safety as time is ticking on them being able to maintain their status in England’s top-flight.

Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Mane’s comments:
