Speaking on The View from The Lane Podcast, Tim Spiers has shared one of his observations about Antonio Conte from the weekend.

Spiers was in attendance in the press box at Bournemouth vs Spurs, and while he was treated to a tremendous match, he was also keeping a keen eye on what Conte was doing throughout the game.

As one of the most energetic managers in the Premier League, Conte is often very interesting to watch on the touchline, and Spiers noted that after the game the Italian headed straight over to Heung-Min Son after the final whistle to embrace the South Korean.

Conte made a beeline for Son

Spiers spoke about Conte and the affection he showed for Son.

“He’s (Son) not been himself lately, he’s lacking that zip and vigour to get into those positions. It was noticeable at the weekend how Conte made a beeline for him after the match at Bournemouth he proper had him in a headlock. He went in for a big hug at first and then he went to see some other players, and then he had him in a headlock as they walked side-by-side off the pitch. It certainly seems like a close bond,” Spiers said.

Played his part

Son may have gone another game without a goal at the weekend, but it’s fair to say that he more than played his part in proceedings down on the south coast.

He was a constant nuisance for the Bournemouth defence, and he also had a hand in the winning goal.

Conte clearly valued his contributions as he was the first player he went and congratulated after the game, and hopefully, this sort of acknowledgement will help Son to build his confidence.

The striker needs to get back to his best if Spurs are going to challenge for major honours this season.
