Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted to Eddie Hearn’s claim that their stadium is ‘one of the best I have ever seen’, as he told his Instagram followers.
The boxing promoter also added that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will hold ‘70,000’ supporters for Anthony Joshua’s showdown for the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO world heavyweight titles against Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night.
Tottenham’s home ground usually holds just over 60,000 fans, but given a large number will be able to watch the fight in and around ringside then it will increase that number for the weekend.
Following Hearn’s comments, Spurs fans have made it clear that they have a top-quality stadium, but they don’t have a team to match it.
Some joked whether Hearn himself, whose family used to own Leyton Orient, would consider helping them buy players.
Daniel Levy isn’t a popular figure in North London, with some thinking he is prioritising off the field matters over what the club is trying to produce out on the pitch.
Under Mauricio Pochettinio, Spurs went two transfer windows, back-to-back, without bringing in a single player.
Despite the club reaching the Champions League final, it stagnated them and eventually resulted in Pochettino getting the sack.
Fast forward to today, Jose Mourinho has been and gone, and now Nuno Espirito Santo is under pressure, with seemingly the same issues Poch faced towards the back end of his tenure.
Either way, whilst it’s all good for the fans to see such great events being held at their stadium.
The bottom line is that they aren’t doing the business on the football pitch and it is leaving supporters even more annoyed.
