Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has been discussing Martin Odegaard and his role as the temporary Arsenal captain in recent weeks.

The Gunners still don’t have a permanent skipper after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the role, but in recent weeks, Odegaard has been wearing the armband on the pitch, and he’s looked like a natural.

The midfielder is already the captain of his national team, and according to Seaman, he could be a brilliant future Arsenal skipper.

What’s been said?

Seaman spoke about Odegaard’s role as a leader.

“When I saw he was the captain again, straight away I looked how old he is and I think he’s about 24 isn’t he? That’s a good age, a good young captain to take over. With Lacazette he’s out of contract, so in Odegaard a good seed has been planted there for a really good captain of Arsenal. I’ve always felt that either a centre-half or a midfield player are the best captains because they can communicate a lot better with the whole team,” Seaman said.

Leads by example

Odegaard may not be the most vocal player on the pitch, but he certainly leads by example.

Indeed, the midfielder plays his heart out every single time he puts on an Arsenal shirt, his mentality is seemingly spot on and he’s an extremely talented footballer.

With Arsenal having such a young team, it’s important for the captain to act as a role model, and in all honesty, there aren’t many players more suited to that role right now than Odegaard.

Kieran Tierney may be some pundits’ pick, but Odegaard would be an excellent skipper if Mikel Arteta wants to bestow him with that honour.
