Ibrahima Konate has sent a cryptic tweet amid intense speculation about a move to Liverpool during the summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Friday afternoon that Liverpool were still set to sign the Red Bull Leipzig defender in spite of conflicting reports during the week.

Kicker claimed in midweek that Konate could yet sign a new deal with the Bundesliga club, after the reports that a move to Anfield was effectively done and dusted.

The 21-year-old powerhouse sent a confusing message on Twitter yesterday, posting a caption-less tweet that had a gif of a cartoon character tilting his head.

Here’s how some Liverpool fans on social media responded to it:

Do Liverpool need Konate? That’s up for debate because a lot of Liverpool fans won’t have seen much of him.

But Jurgen Klopp absolutely needs a couple of reliable central defenders during the summer transfer window.

There’s a reason why the Reds are scrambling for a Champions League qualification place this season, despite winning the Premier League 10 months ago, and it’s because an injury crisis of centre-backs.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez haven’t kicked a ball since October and Joel Matip added to the crisis, with the Cameroon international unavailable for the past three months.

Centre-backs are definitely the order of the day for Liverpool and it’ll be interesting to see whether Romano is right.
