Frederic Guilbert has told Aston Villa new signing, Lucas Digne, ‘see you soon my brother’ on his Instagram story.

Aston Villa announced on Twitter on Thursday morning that Digne is their second signing of the January transfer window from Everton.

The 28-year-old becomes the third French player currently on the books of the club after Morgan Sanson and Guilbert, who is out on loan at Strasbourg.

This latest addition is another sign of intent from Villa and Steven Gerrard following the recent arrival of Philippe Coutinho.

Villa are aiming to get back into Europe and signings such as this certainly help them along the way.

Some may feel, given that Gerrard only arrived midway through the season, then a European push won’t be possible during this campaign.

But this is where the Midlands side can have a free hit because they aren’t in any danger of getting dragged into a relegation battle.

Regarding Guilbert, it will be interesting to see what Gerrard does with the right-back because he has been loaned out for back-to-back seasons.

But that was under the stewardship of Dean Smith and not the man that replaced him in the B6 dugout in November.

Either way, Villa are slowly but surely starting to build a team that should be competing much higher than their current Premier League standing states.
