Mark Lawrenson has said on Off The Ball that he does not think that Georginio Wijnaldum will be at Liverpool next season.

Wijnaldum is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer, and no new deal is in place yet.

The Liverpool Echo has reported that the Reds have made an offer to the Netherlands international midfielder and will not increase it.

Liverpool legend Lawrenson does not think that the 30-year-old former Newcastle United star will stay at Anfield next season.

Lawrenson said about Wijnaldum on Off The Ball: “The old pro in me kind of looks at him and thinks, well, you almost like want to leave him out. He is saying to the club, ‘See you later, I am out of here’. They will have offered him a really really good contract obviously, so he needs replacing.”

Georginio Wijnaldum’s future

It does seem quite late in terms of agreeing a new contract, and the signs are that Wijnaldum will be at a new club next season.

Of course, in football anything is possible, but with his current deal to expire in just a few weeks, one would have expected a new contract to have been sorted already.

Credit must be given to the 30-year-old for playing well and staying committed to the team despite uncertainty over his future.

Wijnaldum remains an important player in manager Jurgen Klopp’s team and has done his best this season.

According to WhoScored, Wijnaldum has scored two goals in 31 Premier League games and made nine appearances in the Champions League for the Reds this season.
