Thiago Alcantara produced yet another masterclass for Liverpool today.
The Reds beat Southampton 4-0 at Anfield to move second in the Premier League table.
Thiago was arguably Liverpool’s best player last week as Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Arsenal by the same scoreline.
And in the Champions League win over Porto on Wednesday, the 30-year-old scored a 25-yard rasper which will live long in the memories of supporters everywhere.
The former Bayern Munich maestro, a £20 million signing in 2020, was on the scoresheet again today.
Thiago made it 3-0 over the Saints before the half-time whistle.
He picked the ball up outside the box, executed a clever roll-by to deceive a Southampton defender and then smashed home via a deflection.
It was an exquisite piece of skill in the build-up, and here’s what Alan Shearer told Optus Sport.
He said: “The touch to get himself in the posititon, to open himself up. He gives it the old little dummy like, goes ‘Oh see you later’. The defender goes for it and I know it takes an awful deflection, but I think it was probably going in anyway. But the skill….superb.”
Influence
If Liverpool keep this guy fit, it’s huge.
Obviously he’s had his injuries since joining from Bayern some 14 months ago.
But as far as talent goes, no midfielder can match his technique or influence and he’s simply massive for Klopp.
And better yet, now he’s starting to find the net.
Before this week, Thiago had only netted once for Liverpool, but he’s trebled that tally now and long may it continue from a Reds perspective.
