Celtic have snapped up Stoke City defender Moritz Bauer.

Celtic have today confirmed their latest summer signing, with Stoke City right back Moritz Bauer joining the club on loan for the season.

The Bhoys had already landed Fraser Forster, Hatem Abd Elhamed, Christopher Jullien, Boli Bolingoli and Luca Connell, as well as a string of youngsters including striker Jonathan Afolabi.

Celtic have needed another right back though, as whilst Abd Elhamed has arrived to help in that area of the pitch, the Bhoys lost two right backs in Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa.

Celtic have been working hard to get new signings in, and have sprung something of a surprise on fans by announcing a deal for right back Bauer.

There weren’t even rumours of a deal for Bauer in recent days, but Celtic have confirmed that the 27-year-old Stoke misfit has joined the club on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Bauer has been on the fringes of the Stoke side for a year now, making just six appearances in 2019 and no appearances at all so far this season.

That may make this a strange deal, but it’s worth noting that the Daily Mail reported almost a year ago today that Brendan Rodgers wanted to bring Bauer to Celtic.

No move was done, but Celtic finally have their man at the second attempt, and the pacey Austrian will now hope to prove that he was worth the wait having arrived at Parkhead today.
