Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson’s current deal at the Stadium of Light is due to expire at the end of the season.
Sebastian Larsson has suggested to the Chronicle that he could leave Sunderland at the end of the season.
Larsson’s current contract at the Stadium of Light is set to expire in the summer, and he is yet to be offered new terms.
Larsson has been with Sunderland for five years now, but the 31-year-old has admitted that he is relaxed about his current situation.
“My situation is very relaxed,” Larsson said.
“My contract expires in the summer. That’s about where we are. What happens in the summer, we get to later.
“It [the relegation fight] is not a new situation for us. All the focus is on Sunderland and to help the club.”
Whether Sunderland will offer Larsson a new deal is highly uncertain at this stage.
The Swedish international is one of their higher earners, and with Sunderland’s Premier League status insecure, Larsson’s future is unlikely to be sorted at any time soon.
Sunderland are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, and they are seven points adrift of safety.
Larsson has made 17 first-team appearances for Sunderland this season, but he has not contributed a goal or an assist.
Sunderland’s next match comes against Watford at Vicarage Road in two weeks’ time.
