Sebastian Bassong has told the Daily Star that he is confident Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the Premier League’s top four places despite failing to sign any new players in the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently sit in fourth place after five wins from seven league games, as well as two losses to Watford and Liverpool, after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Spurs have come under huge pressure after the north Londoners failed to sign a single player in the summer, with many questioning whether they would be able to mix it with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, they remain in fourth after finishing in third place last season on 77 points behind both Manchester clubs, and former defender Bassong believes they will remain in the top four.

“I’m not worried about them and I’ve got my faith and trust in them. I think they’ll be contenders for the top four, definitely they’ll be in there,” Bassong said. “There’s loads of good teams in there, it’s getting tougher and tougher.

“But I think they have the experience and they haven’t changed the squad so they know each other, they’ve been working together for a long time and I think that’ll pay off.

“They had a great season last season and I don’t know if they’ll better it this season because I’m not really good for gambling and for predictions. But I’m sure they’ll do their best and that it’ll pay off.”

Pochettino’s side finally ended their run of three straight defeats to Watford, Liverpool and Inter Milan with the 2-0 win over Huddersfield, in which Harry Kane scored a superb brace to earn a much-needed three points.

Spurs are next in action against Lionel Messi’s Barcelona in the Champions League, before playing host to newly-promoted Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.
