Sean Morrison could have been an excellent addition for Sheffield Wednesday, if they had managed to sign him last summer.

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock told Wales Online yesterday that he thought Morrison would head to Wednesday at the start of the season.

Warnock said: “I thought he would go to Sheffield Wednesday, especially when they upped the price to £5 million or something like that.

“I said to him, you’ll get a lot more money than here and a longer contract, I said I don’t want you to go but I can’t stop you going.

“He came to me and just said, ‘I think we have something special here gaffer, I’d like to stay if it’s alright with you’. I said, ‘it’s alright with me son, yeah.’”

Wednesday must be gutted at missing out on the signing of the centre-back now, as he could have been an excellent addition.

The Owls have struggled to settle upon a consistent defensive pairing this term, with many of their centre-back options struggling for form.

Morrison, meanwhile, has been almost a permanent starter for Cardiff, and he has looked rock solid.

Morrison has helped the Bluebirds climb into second place in the Championship table.

And Wednesday must be thinking of what might have been, after missing out on the 27-year-old, who would have significantly improved their squad this season.
