Newcastle United beat Blackburn Rovers 4-2 in the FA Cup on their last outing.

Newcastle player Sean Longstaff looks on during a pre-season friendly match between Hull City and Newcastle United at KCOM Stadium on July 24, 2018 in Hull, England.

Sean Longstaff has revealed on Newcastle United’s official website that the advice Tim Krul gave him has stuck with him.

Longstaff scored his first goal for Newcastle in their FA Cup clash with Blackburn Rovers in midweek.

The youngster’s display caught the eye at Ewood Park, and he says that former Newcastle stopper Krul really helped him in his career.

He said: “It was Tim Krul in pre-season (a couple of years ago) who said ‘you should shoot more from long range, because the ball wobbles and it’s hard for the keeper to track.

“So I took that to Blackpool and luckily I scored six or seven goals from outside the box there. When I found myself in a bit of space tonight, I was always going to hit it.”

Longstaff has started to get more and more chances at Newcastle of late.

The academy graduate has started Newcastle’s last two matches, and he impressed against both Chelsea and Blackburn.

Longstaff could be in line to feature again for Newcastle at the weekend, as Rafael Benitez’s side are badly struggling with injuries.

Newcastle are without both Ki Sung Yeung and Jonjo Shelvey at the moment, which has promoted Longstaff into the starting line-up.

The Magpies’ next game comes against Cardiff City at St. James’ Park.
