The Newcastle United ace has been in excellent form over the past couple of months.

Newcastle ace Sean Longstaff sat down for an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, and admitted that he was never really a stand-out player when he was coming through the ranks at St James’ Park.
The 21-year-old has burst onto the scene with the Magpies this season, making nine Premier League appearances, and he has really impressed for Rafa Benitez’s side, chalking up a goal and an assist in the process.
Longstaff has taken to Newcastle’s central midfield like a duck to water, and it is hard to imagine that there was a time not too long ago when the club’s coaches didn’t actually rate him that highly.
That was the case just a few years ago, however.
Longstaff sat down for an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, and shared how the club’s coaches’ opinions of him motivated him to prove everyone at the football club wrong:

“I remember the Under-23s coaches saying, ‘You’re not one of the top players, we’re only going to give you a scholarship’. I was 18, I wanted to be a first-year pro. I had an opinion of myself but theirs was different. It wasn’t nice to hear. But it motivated me. I wanted to look back and say to those coaches, “You’re wrong, I’ll be the one who kicks on and makes it”.’ Only I could change that opinion.”
Longstaff will surely continue to get better and better, and Newcastle quite obviously have one seriously good player on their hands…even though it took their coaches a while to realise his potential.
