Sean Longstaff is currently trying to prove himself to parent club Newcastle United with a loan spell at Kilmarnock.

Sean Longstaff is hoping that his loan spell in Scotland will help him go on to become a first-team player for parent club Newcastle United, just like it did for Paul Dummett, The Scottish Sun reports.

Longstaff joined Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock during the January transfer window along with two of his Magpies teammates, and has made a very bright start to life at Rugby Park.

The 19-year-old has scored twice and contributed two assists in seven league games for struggling Killie, and he explained that he is motivated by Dummett’s emergence – the full-back played for St Mirren on loan and has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for Newcastle – to make his time in Scotland a success.

“If you come to Scotland and do well, you can go back and get in the first team,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“Paul is the perfect example of that.

“That is the plan if I carry on doing well here.”

Given the teenager’s form since moving north of the border, it would hardly be a surprise if some of the movers and shakers at St James’ Park were taking some notice of how he is getting on.

And while it may not be enough to force his way into Rafa Benitez’s plans just yet, that form may earn him another loan spell which gives him a chance to make another step up, or perhaps a permanent switch to a club that is ready to hand him regular first-team football.

But given that hopes may not have been too high for Dummett when he headed out on loan, it may not be a surprise if Longstaff does get given chances to shine in the first-team following his return.
