Newcastle lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.
Newcastle United youngster Sean Longstaff has told the club’s official website that he was impressed with new signing Salomon Rondon, despite The Toon suffering a poor 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Longstaff, 20, remained on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes as he made his debut against Forest, proving to be one of the shining lights in a side that looked bereft of confidence against Championship opposition.
Forest took the lead in the second minute through former Toon striker Daryl Murphy, before Rondon equalised in the 92nd minute. But Forest responded instantly with two more goals before the full-time whistle.
Rondon came off the bench to score his first in Newcastle colours since signing on loan from West Brom and Toon youngster Longstaff was full or praise for the Venezuela international.
“We worked so hard to make up or the mistake we did make, and Rondón scored a brilliant goal – it’s a great finish,” Longstaff said.
“He scored his first goal for Newcastle and we’ve got to be able to do a better job of making it a better night for him as well when he does score that goal, and try and go on and win the game.”
Rondon was played through by Ayoze Perez on the right side of the penalty area before smashing past goalkeeper Luke Steele from a tight angle into the bottom corner. But goals from Matty Cash and Gil Dias saw Forest progress.
Newcastle have suffered a shocking start to the season, losing three of their opening four matches against Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea while failing to beat newly-promoted Cardiff City.
Another tough couple of fixtures are coming Newcastle’s way, as they travel to The Etihad to face Manchester City before returning to host Arsenal the week after.
