Glasgow Rangers forward Ryan Hardie is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of the season.

Ryan Hardie of St Mirren misses a fine chance during the match beTFRED Cup Group Stage match between St Mirren and Edinburgh City at St Mirren Park on July 30, 2016 in Paisley, Scotland.

With Ryan Hardie scoring five goals in his last six games out on loan with Livingston, it is certainly a surprise that Rangers are still yet to renew the 20-year-old’s contract at Ibrox – which, The Scottish Sun reports, expires at the end of the season.

Hardie may have struggled to break into the Gers first-team on a consistent basis, but he has been prolific for the under-20s for a while now and is currently shining out on loan for the Scottish Championship side, so it is not difficult to see why the Light Blues fans would want to see the youngster given fresh terms before he is allowed to leave on a free at the end of the season.

And perhaps it could be argued that Rangers now have even greater incentive to hand Hardie that new deal after Graeme Murty alluded to the fact that he would like to sign Sean Goss on a permanent basis.

Goss appeared to be the most underwhelming signing Rangers made during the January transfer window, with the midfielder only boasting six first-team appearances before his loan move from Loftus Road. However, he has arguably proved to be best acquisition of what was a very good window for the Scottish Premiership side – prompting Murty to suggest he would like to seek a long-term deal for the 22-year-old.

Speaking to the Daily Record however, Queen Park Rangers boss Ian Holloway hit out at Murty’s comments and insisted that Goss’ future lies with the Championship club.

So while that door appears to be closed for Rangers, perhaps Hardie could give them a small chance of being able to pull off a deal if the Gers hand him a new contract.

The Scottish Sun reported in December that QPR were eyeing a deal for the young Gers striker – so perhaps if Rangers do offer Hardie a new deal before the summer, they should consider using him as a makeweight to try and sweeten any potential Goss pursuit.

Losing Hardie would be a major blow, but keeping Goss at the club would outweigh that entirely if he continues to play at the level that he has done so far, so offering cash and Hardie for the midfielder may be worth a try come the end of the season.
