Burnley are reportedly interested in signing the Chelsea defender.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche refused to rule out the possibility of signing Chelsea ace Gary Cahill when speaking to reporters yesterday, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

The experienced Englishman, 33, is out of contract at the end of this season, and as things stand, it seems as though he will be released on a free transfer.

The Daily Mail claims that the Clarets are interested in signing Cahill, but they will face competition from a lengthy list of Premier League clubs.

The 61-capped England international is still a top class defender, and he would be a superb addition for Burnley, but do the Lancashire outfit realistically have a chance of signing him?

Dyche fielded questions on the matter when speaking to reporters yesterday, and refused to rule out making a move for the Chelsea centre-back, as quoted by the Daily Mail:

Gary Cahill of Chelsea looks on during the UEFA Europa League Group L match between Chelsea and Vidi FC at Stamford Bridge on October 4, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

“It’s ongoing for us – we look at quality players, we try to keep an eye on the market, we try to find the right ones who fit us as a team and the business model of course, and the right age, the right pay scales. It’s not easy and it narrows down your market quite significantly when you try to tick every box and that is what we attempt to do here.”

Burnley will undoubtedly have to strengthen this summer, if they are to stay in the Premier League next season, and bringing in Cahill from Chelsea would be a great place to start.
