Last time the Goodison Park side came to town they inflicted a heavy defeat on the hosts – but this time round it’s the Toffees and Marco Silva under pressure.
Ahead of their Premier League meeting with Everton this weekend, Clarets manager Sean Dyche has discussed his side’s previous fixture against the Toffees at Turf Moor, which saw the hosts crash to a heavy defeat.
The 2018-19 fixture between the two in Lancashire, which took place on Boxing Day, saw Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne and Gylfi Sigurdsson find the target as Everton, who had gone into the game on the back of two consecutive defeats, went 3-0 up after 22 minutes.
Ben Gibson notched one back for Burnley before half time but Digne added an impressive long-range second in the second half and substitute Richarlison scored a fifth late on to leave the Clarets three points adrift of safety in the Premier League at the halfway stage of the campaign.
Burnley were alright in the end as they retained their top-flight status come the end of the 2018-19 campaign and have made a decent start to proceedings this term, taking nine points from their opening seven fixtures to sit 11th in the table.
When asked by Lancashire Live about the result last season, Dyche is quoted as simply saying on the matter: “I don’t need to use it as motivation.”
Subsequently asked about the Toffees’ form this term, he replied: “They have good players and good individuals, they have had a lot of possession and haven’t been as effective as they would have liked to be in terms of scoring goals.”
Everton boss Marco Silva is currrently under pressure after a run of four defeats in the Toffees’ last five league matches, including three successive losses.
