Glasgow Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring Scott Arfield to Ibrox.

Sean Dyche, Manager of Burnley looks on during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley at Wembley Stadium on August 27, 2017 in London, England.

In comments reported by the Lancashire Telegraph, Sean Dyche has labelled Scott Arfield a fantastic servant and insisted that Burnley understand his decision to make the move to Rangers this summer.

The Lancashire Telegraph reports that the winger is closing in on a move to Ibrox when his contract expires at the end of the season. It will bring an end to a five-year spell at Turf Moor that has seen the Canada international make nearly 200 appearances for the Clarets in all competitions.

And ahead of his expected exit, Dyche – who was also talking about Dean Marney, who is also heading for a new challenge elsewhere – heaped praise upon Arfield and admitted that he can see why he is seemingly Ibrox-bound.

“Both (have been) tremendous servants for the club and if their futures can be aligned in a simple process then we would obviously be open to that,” Dyche said, as reported by the Lancashire Telegraph.

“It’s important for any player here – we try and be really fair with them – but particularly ones who have done what they’ve done – for themselves, for the team, for me, for the club. Fantastic servants.”

“Rangers came through and asked us about Scotty Arfield, what his position was. Scotty was a boyhood Rangers fan,” he went on to add.

“That one’s pretty simple in its form – in the sense that if they want to speak to him, we said, ‘Yes, of course’, we understand it.”

It certainly appears to be a real coup for Rangers to get a deal done to sign Arfield – provided that everything goes through as planned – especially as they will land the 29-year-old on a free transfer.

As a Gers fan, the winger will know all about the expectation and the pressure that is going to be on the moment he arrives at Ibrox, and he would undoubtedly love nothing more than to be able to help his boyhood club get themselves back alongside their bitter rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

And with Arfield set to join an already decent-sized group of Gers fans amongst the Light Blues squad, it certainly appears that Rangers are developing a very good core that could prove beneficial in the coming years.
