Burnley’s Dyche was linked with the Villa Park job.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche says he never received a formal approach over the Aston Villa job amid speculation before praising their appointment of Steve Bruce, Sky Sports report.
A number of names were linked with the vacant Villa post following the dismissal of Roberto Di Matteo, before former Birmingham City and Hull City manager Bruce was officially appointed.
One of the names in question was Burnley boss Dyche – hardly a great surprise considering that the former Watford manager has two promotions in three years with the Clarets on his CV.

Dyche, however, told Sky Sports that links with the Villa job were purely speculation as a result of his success at Turf Moor and adds the Midlands club have made a superb appointment in Bruce.
“No,” Dyche responded when asked if he recieved a formal approach from Villa. “It’s just after two promotions in three years out of the Championship I think it’s a common sense link more than anything.
“I think they’ve appointed a very good man. I get on well with Brucey and like him a lot as a person, as well as his record as a manager. I wish him well.”

Villa were one of the favourites for promotion from the Championship this term following their Premier League relegation last season, yet one win in their opening 11 matches has left them with plenty of work to do.
Bruce has a number of promotions to his name and guided Hull to the Premier League via the play-offs last term, but his history at Birmingham City means he will have to win over some Villa supporters.
The Villans currently sit 10 points behind rivals Birmingham who occupy sixth spot, and Bruce’s first game in charge sees fellow West Midlands side Wolverhampton Wanderers visit Villa Park.
