Sean Dyche has lauded Jordan Henderson for doing the ‘ugly’ stuff during Liverpool’s Champions League final win on Saturday evening in Madrid.

The Burnley manager stated that supporters don’t always ‘admire’ what Henderson did in the final, but managers do appreciate that side of the work.

It was a game that didn’t really get started, with no flow or clear cut chances in the game. Tottenham had the majority of the possession, but they themselves couldn’t really find any rhythm to their game.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 LIve (01/06/2019 at 10:05 pm, Dyche made it clear why Henderson was his ‘unsung hero’ on the night.

“The unsung hero for me, it was an awkward game tonight for different reasons, but Jordan Henderson done all the ugly stuff,” Dyche told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He has done all the hard work. He has done all the hard yards for what it takes to make a real team.

“He knows he has quality around him. He knows they have quality on transition, but he has found a way to be the glue that holds it together, particularly on this run-in to this game. I think he has been excellent. But for things that managers love, not always that fans admire.”

There was no doubt that it was the greatest moment of Henderson’s career on Saturday because he wrote his name in the history books by becoming yet another Liverpool captain to lift the European Cup.

He will be hoping to add the Premier League trophy to Liverpool’s name next season, with domestic treble winners Manchester City currently on a roll seemingly nobody can stop.

The Reds may need to dip into the summer transfer market to bulk up their squad further if they are to dethrone Pep Guardiola’s side.
