HITC Sport understands Burnley are in talks with Sean Dyche over a new deal at Turf Moor.

Burnley have opened talks with manager Sean Dyche over a new long-term contract in the wake of links to Sunderland.

Dyche was strongly linked with the Sunderland job in the summer before Dick Advocaat did a U-turn and decided to remain at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland were again keen on Dyche after Advocaat decided to step down earlier this month, but the 44-year-old decided to snub their overtures to stay at Burnley.

As a result of the interest from Sunderland Burnley’s hierarchy are keen to tie down Dyche to a new improved deal to try and ward off potential future interest in the highly-rated tactician.

Dyche has been with Burnley since October 2012 and he guided the club to promotion to the Premier League in the 2013/14 season.

The former Watford boss was handed a new deal in the summer of 2014, but Burnley are ready to extend it even further as they want Dyche at the club long-term.

Burnley see Dyche as the man to lead them back to the Premier League this season and they currently sit in sixth spot in the Championship after 10 games.
