The 20-year-old Nike Academy graduate has not made an impact with the Owls.

Sheffield Wednesday took a punt just over a year ago, bringing in Sean Clare on an 18-month contract.

The Londoner had caught the eye with the Nike Academy. The likes of Nottingham Forest’s Jorge Grant, Celtic’s Tom Rogic and Roma’s Ismail H’Maidat have all come through the ranks with the academy and Sheffield Wednesday hoped Clare might do the same.

The midfielder has so far not managed to make his mark at Hillsborough and is currently out on loan at Accrington Stanley.

Now it seems he may be on his way back to the Owls because of injury trouble.

Stanley manager John Coleman told This Is Lancashire this week:

“Sean Clare is a worry.

“He’s got an injured foot and he might have to go back to Sheffield Wednesday to assess it.”

With the season now coming toward it’s end the chances of Clare playing again if seriously injured are looking bleak.

The cultured midfielder may have shown plenty of promise at the Nike Academy but it seems he is struggling to do enough to remain a Wednesday player in the long run.

With his contract expiring in the summer and injury now getting in his way, the Clare experiment may not work out for Sheffield Wednesday.
