Sean Clare is in discussions with Sheffield Wednesday about a new contract as manager Jos Luhukay says it’s in midfielder’s hands.
Sean Clare has spoken about his contract situation at Sheffield Wednesday with the midfielder’s current deal set to expire this summer.
Clare has been brought into the Owls first team since Jos Luhukay was appointed as manager last month and has now made three senior appearances.
Talks have been taking place between the 21-year-old’s representatives and the South Yorkshire club, but the youngster is trying not to concern himself with the speculation.
“I have left it (the contract) to my agent,” Clare told the Sheffield Star. “I am just concentrating on playing football. I am enjoying my time here. The manager has put a lot of trust in me to play me against Aston Villa and Derby and hopefully he will continue to do that. There’s a reason he puts trust in the young players, so we just have to believe in ourselves.”
Clare scored the opener for Wednesday as they lost 4-2 to Aston Villa in their last Championship outing in what was only his second start for the club.
Luhukay praised the versatile midfield player – who spent the first half of this season on loan at Gillingham – after the match and says that it is in his hands now whether he signs a new deal.
“He can sign a new contract, that is what Sean knows,” the Portuguese told BBC Radio Sheffield.
“We give him the chance to play for the first team. He was far from the team before and spent six months on loan. He can sign a new contract every day.”
