Everton have made an encouraging start to life under Ronald Koeman’s stewardship.
Seamus Coleman has told the Daily Mail that Ronald Koeman’s harsh selection policy at Everton has gone down well with the club’s players.
Koeman has told Everton’s squad that if their performances dip then they will be taken out of the starting line-up, and he has proven that to be true through his actions so far.
The Dutch boss has taken the likes of Gerard Deulofeu and Ross Barkley out of Everton’s team, after poor displays.
And Coleman feels that Koeman’s strict approach is bringing the best out of the team.
“The lads on the pitch now know that we have to perform or we won’t be in the team – which is the way it should be really,” the right-back said.
Everton badly underperformed last term under Roberto Martinez, who had a more relaxed style of management.
And Coleman has suggested that standards may have slipped under the Spaniard’s guidance.
“He [Koeman] has set a few standards that should have happened in the previous campaign as well, [such as] time keeping, making sure people are in on time,” Coleman said. “That standard should [always] be the case. He’s just sharpened the place up all round.”
Everton have made a very encouraging start to the new campaign, and look to be performing at a much higher level than last season.
The Toffees are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table, and there is hope that they can challenge for a European spot this term.
