Seamus Coleman outlines how he close he’s come to leaving Everton

Seamus Coleman has been linked with some of Europe’s heavyweights during his career, but remains at Everton.

In comments reported by the Irish Mirror, Seamus Coleman has insisted that he has never come close to leaving Everton during his career despite having some very tempting opportunities put in front of him.

Coleman has spent nearly a decade on the Toffees’ books, making over 260 appearances for the club in all competitions since arriving at Goodison Park in 2009.

The Irish Mirror reports that he has been linked with Manchester United several times throughout his career, while Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have also supposedly had the Republic of Ireland international on their radar in the past.

But Coleman suggested that he has not had any intention of leaving the Toffees during his time on Merseyside.

“I was never close to going,” he said, as reported by the Irish Mirror.

“There was interest from numerous teams but I never looked for a way out. That’s me sitting here telling you the truth. Whatever went on between clubs went on, but I’ve always been happy at Everton.”

After recovering from his horrific injury sustained on international duty, the 30-year-old is enjoying a very good run of form in Marco Silva’s side, making eight Premier League appearances this season.

He appears to be getting back towards his best. So while he may not have had any desire to leave Everton in the past, perhaps there may be one or two clubs who consider making an ambitious bid for the full-back in the coming years.
