Everton haven’t beaten Merseyside rivals Liverpool in 19 games now.
Seamus Coleman has admitted to Jim White’s talkSPORT show that he was disappointed Everton couldn’t end their hoodoo against Liverpool on Sunday.
The Toffees held the Premier League title-chasing Liverpool to a goalless draw at Goodison Park in a largely uneventful Merseyside derby.
Marco Silva’s side had chances to win the game, though a stand-out showing from the Reds’ centre-back Virgil van Dijk limited Everton to few goalscoring opportunities.
Everton haven’t beaten their neighbours in 19 attempts across all competitions now.
And Coleman admits that he’s bothered by the drought.
“It plays in the back of your mind,” he told talkSPORT. That’s why there’s still a little bit of disappointment that we didn’t get the win. The performance was better but we need to tend to that hoodoo soon.
“We don’t just want to be the team that’s happy to disappoint Liverpool. We want to be good in our own right and for too long we’ve not been challenging for European places and cup finals.
“But with them being your rivals, you don’t necessarily want to see them winning anything either.”
The Irish right-back, who earns £70,000 per week at Everton [Spotrac], had a steady game against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
It hasn’t been a great season for Coleman on a personal level, with the long-serving defender enduring lengthy periods out of form, but he looked decent at Goodison this past weekend.
Some Everton fans will be disappointed not to have ended the hoodoo that Coleman is referring to, but many will console themselves with the fact that by denying Klopp’s troops three points, they denied them top spot in the Premier League table.
