Seaman delivers verdict on power shift between Tottenham and Arsenal

Tottenham face Arsenal on Saturday in the first north London derby of the season.

Arsenal icon David Seaman has told the Independent that the Gunners are still the bigger club in north London despite Tottenham Hotspur’s recent form.

Spurs face the Gunners on Saturday in the Premier League, as the lunchtime kick-off commences the return to domestic matches after a fortnight of international football.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs finished above Arsenal for the first time since 1985 last season, as they sat in second with Arsenal way down in fifth. This season, little has changed with Spurs in third and Arsene Wenger’s men in sixth.

However, Seaman does not believe there has been a power shift in Spurs favour, as they are yet to win a trophy since Mauricio Pochettino took over as manager – claiming that only the form of both sides has changed.

“I don’t think the balance of power has shifted but the form certainly has,” Seaman said. “The power comes through winning trophies and obviously Tottenham haven’t done that yet.”

Arsenal come into the match after losing 3-1 to Manchester City last time out, while Spurs will be in buoyant mood after beating Crystal Palace and Real Madrid in the week prior to the international break.

Three points for Arsenal would see them beat Spurs for just the second time in the two sides’ last eight meetings.

A win could see them climb to fourth, if Chelsea and Liverpool slip up, while Spurs will be hoping Newcastle United can do a job against Manchester United, with three points enough to see them go into second.
