Speaking on The Redmen TV YouTube channel, Goal journalist Neil Jones has shared what Marko Grujic texted him about Otavio amid links to Liverpool.

The 26-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield this summer, and Jones has been trying to do his due diligence on the Reds’ transfer target.

Grujic of course played with Otavio on loan at Porto last term, and it seems as though he rates him, sending Jones a positive text about the player.

What’s been said?

Jones poured cold water on the transfer rumour, but he did say that Grujic gave him the seal of approval.

“I don’t think Otavio is one for Liverpool. I might be proven wrong, but I don’t think he is. People love a swap deal, but you very rarely see a swap deal come off. Grujic is one we’ll come to talk about, but Otavio isn’t one that’s boiling. The rumour was that he had a release clause that expired at some point in June or July and Liverpool would have to ask fact, but they haven’t,” Jones said.

“I don’t expect it to be done, but I did text Marko Grujic to ask him what type of player Otavio is, and his reply was just ‘good player’, so you’ve got the Marko Grujic seal of approval there.”

It seems as though Otavio has at least one admirer at Liverpool in the shape of Grujic.

Of course, Grujic doesn’t have a say in the club’s transfer business, but the fact that he thinks he’s a good player is a promising sign.

Grujic has played alongside some of the best players in the world in recent years, and if he rates Otavio, he must have something about him.

As Jones says, this isn’t a deal that looks incredibly likely, but even he admits that may be proven wrong on that front.
