West Ham talent Haksabanovic has joined Swedish side Norrkoping until the summer of 2020.

West Ham playmaker Sead Haksabanovic has been quoted by Swedish outlet FotbollSkanalen as saying that he turned down a move to AIK as they failed to offer enough money – before joining Norrkoping.

The 19-year-old was sent on loan to second-tier Spanish side Malaga at the start of the season, but returned to the London Stadium after failing to have an impact in January – he played just two matches.

The Swede has only played twice for West Ham since his move to east London from Halmstad in the summer of 2017 for a fee of £2.7million (ESPN), and has now joined Norrkoping in a bid to rejuvenate his career.

Haksabanovic was expected to join AIK in the January window, but a move fell through and Haksabanovic explains why he chose Norrkoping over AIK – explaining that money was a factor.

“It was too little money,” Haksabanovic said, on AIK’s offer. “Then Jozo [Palac, agent] called me and said that Norrköping had given me a better contract. Then Norrköping came into the picture for me, I talked to Jens and then it felt better.”

Haksabanovic signed a five-year contract when he joined the Hammers and that deal runs until the summer of 2022. He remains way down the pecking order, having failed to play under Manuel Pellegrini.

It remains to be seen if the midfielder can impress when the Swedish season starts in March, and regain his place at the London Stadium. Given that he is still only 19 years of age, the playmaker does have time on his side.
