Scunthorpe United chairman comments on bid for Rangers player Matt Crooks

Glasgow Rangers player Matt Crooks has been linked with a move away from Ibrox and to Scunthorpe United.

Scunthorpe United chairman Peter Swann has been quoted as saying by The Scunthorpe Telegraph that his side have made a bid for Rangers player Matt Crooks.

Crooks has been on the books of Rangers since the summer of 2016 when he moved to the Gers following his departure from Accrington Stanley at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

The 23-year-old is a versatile footballer who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder.

Scunthorpe chairman Swann has revealed that a bid has been made for Crooks from the League One club, but Rangers have turned it down.

“They have not accepted our bid but have accepted one from another club,” The Scunthorpe Telegraph quotes Swann as saying.

“There is not a lot we can do as it is in the hands of Rangers and Crooksy but there is not a need to get into a bidding war.

“Crooksy knows how much we want to have him at the club and he would benefit from us and get his career back on track.

“We have put a really good deal and it is the best we can do. We cannot do any more and it is out of our hands.”

The other club that Swann refers to is probably Scunthorpe’s League One rivals Northampton Town.

According to The Herald, Northampton are interested in signing Crooks from Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that Pedro Caixinha’s side have accepted a bid from the League One club in England.

Rangers finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season and will be aiming to challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic for the title next season.
